ABRAHAM VERGHESE

Abraham Verghese is known for his acclaimed non-fiction work, including My Own Country, which was based on his experiences as an AIDS physician in Johnson City, Tennessee and became a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle award. His second book, The Tennis Partner, was a New York Times notable book and a national bestseller. His third book, Cutting for Stone, is being published by Knopf. He has published extensively in the medical literature, and his work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Time and The Wall Street Journal.
Board-certified in internal medicine and in pulmonary and infectious diseases, he attended the Iowa Writers Workshop at the University of Iowa where he earned his MFA. He is currently on the faculty at Stanford University as Senior Associate Chair, and Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Abraham Verghese Home Page
